ClearviewSM Examples

The ClearviewSM service provides both the tools and the know-how to collect and report on testing and development activities allowing executives, project management, testing management, and testing staff to understand progress and indicators of the testing effort. Below are several significant examples to illustrate how our service can work for you.


Test Case Burn-down Chart

The Test Case Burn-down chart is one of the most comprehensive dashboards components. It includes planned efforts, progress of those efforts against the original plan and the productivity rate of the test efforts. The productivity rates can then be used to accurately predict when the testing effort will be completed.

In the example to the right, our project team is building up a regression test bed by developing test cases with the best practice technique called the Conditional Testing Model. Phase 1 was completed ahead of schedule and Phase 2 was completed right on schedule. Phases 3 and 4 are completing at the same time and as you can see from the chart, the team is running behind schedule. The bottom right dashboard component shows that the productivity of the team has fallen off. This was a result of several of the team members working on other priority projects at the client site.

Defect Aging within a SLA Context

The Defect Aging within a SLA (Service Level Agreement) Context allows all audiences to understand how well defect resolution velocity is actually performing against pre-determined service level agreement expectations.

For the example to the right, this client set-up the severity level structure with severity 4 being the most critical. The SLA response times are overlaid on the defect aging charts resulting in some significant revelations by the management team. In this example, you see that there are three severity level 4 defects (the most urgent) that are 1 month old. When compared to expectations of a 6 hour turnaround time for the most urgent of the defects, this helped the executive team and the management team understand why testing was taking so long.

24 Hour Defect Effectiveness Chart

The 24 Hour Defect Effectiveness Chart allows executives to understand how effective defect resolution is. This answers the question, when a defect is marked "fixed", what percentage of the time is it really resolved?  In addition, it allows the executive team to understand how well the testing organization is performing to their pre-determined Service Level Agreements.
